This is for those who support big military spending and praise free market capitalism?
isn't it hypocritical to support big military spending which would have the same Keynesian effect on the economy and praise free markets ( shift in AD)
defense spending subsidized and protected many industries including computer industry
Please do ur best to provide a meaning full explanation
PS. I do know military spending is constitutional , the question is about the hypocrisy
They only believe in it because they grew up in an era of an arms race vs the soviet union. Most don't understand how pushing for smaller government but blowing up the military contradict conservative ideologies.
The military and spending to provide for the common defense is there yes. So the only issue really is how far to we take it.
There is defeninitely an excess. I do not have a problem with a solid military , some spending on developing new technologies etc. after all thats where teh internet came from.
But its the wisdom of knowing when we can and when we cant, when we should and when we shouldnt etc... and thats been lacking.
So I am probably in agreement with you for the most part. I support free markets with only the minimal regulations where abostlultely needed and I support a strong mlitary within reason and ability. But not an ever expanding military industrial complex.
they only people who support big military spending are people in the military. Or have a base in their town. Or work for some outfit that caters to the military.....
Yes, it is. Military spending does not create jobs. Anyone who says it does is an idiot. As a conservative, I am infuriated by this idiocy.
America should give the USAF ALL the money it needs to make America the dominant military power in space.
Now.
supporters of military spending are always hypocrits.
Just because something is done wrong does not condemn the original intention.
As a conservative, I believe that government should only provide a service when it is within the authority of the Constitution AND is not something that charities/citizens/private enterprises are practically capable of performing themselves. Defense spending, as you noted, is clearly constitutional and, as I believe, we cannot feasibly have a private defense company in charge of preserving America's security. Therefore, the realm of national defense should be nearly completely within the jurisdiction of government. Personally, I support a domestic-based national security program that is moderately libertarian and a bit leaner than what many of my friends further to the right would be comfortable with. However, you must recognize that the military should make up a substantial portion of our budget because it is the PRIMARY duty of the Federal government- we can't have the luxury of butter if we don't have the guns to protect ourselves from people who want to steal or destroy it. So, your & my definition of "big military spending" may differ considerably. You must also note that free market capitalism and military spending are not mutually exclusive and- when done efficiently- fit well together because the fact of the matter is when it comes to our lives we can't afford to be an excessive miser. Companies like Boeing and Northrop Grumman, which make commercial jets and military planes, are not "subsidized" or dependent on the government but are able to compete for contracts which primarily meet our security needs while- as an added benefit under the current system- stimulate competition, creativity, and creates jobs. Thus, I believe that military spending- while it should be in a frugal manner- fulfills the government's constitutional duty to protect us and forwards the principles of competition and stable market prices which Hayek would most certainly approve of. Hope this helps! Connor
